Before you have your silver mercury amalgams removed there are a few things to do.
`
We highly recommend a Mercury Tri Test. This is a test that measures the body’s mercury content within blood, hair and urine. It allows the doctor to see how much of your body’s mercury content is coming from your fillings vs the food that you eat. It also detects if you have higher than normal amounts and if removing your mercury fillings is even recommended. It also lets us know how your kidneys and liver, the main routes of mercury excretion from the body, are working and if supplementation to make them work better, is needed. X-rays – if you have had x-rays taken within the last year, please send them to Scheduling@Wrigleyvilledental.com. We need to see how close the current amalgam filling is to the nerve of the tooth and to verify that the tooth does not have an infection or any pathology around the root of the tooth.
Check with your primary healthcare practitioner to see if there are any contraindications for you to have this procedure done.
If your doctor wants you taking supplements, ask them when to start and follow their directions. Many doctors want their patients to take supplements a few days or a few weeks prior to removal of their mercury fillings.
Don’t do oil pulling. Using coconut oil or sesame oil for oil pulling is a great idea but not when amalgam mercury fillings are present. Oil pulling with these metal fillings can pull the mercury from the fillings and hurt instead of help the body. Read more about oil pulling here.
During the procedure, you are welcome to bring headphones and listen to music, an audiobook or a podcast. We also have a TV in the room and can watch/listen to a show on Netflix.
Stay relaxed, have a positive mindset and know that everything is going to go well. Having a positive mindset, believe it or not, plays a big role in the outcome of all medical procedures. Trust your doctors and their years of experience and removing thousands of fillings before yours.
